Located at 101 York Boulevard, Hamilton, Ontario, with a capacity of 19,000, the FirstOntario Centre has been Canada’s premier venue for more than 30 years for a variety of events from hockey games to major concerts from the world’s biggest names in music! The FirstOntario Centre has become a home for sports, hosting some of the biggest gaming events in the nation, such as the FIBA World Championship, and has held the record for the biggest attendance in a live sports event. It has become a part of Hamilton’s heritage and provides a space for the celebration of sports.
The architecture of the FirstOntario Centre is bold, marking its soul as a sports arena, particularly being the home of the Hamilton Bulldogs and The Toronto Rock. Its upper bowl extends above the concourse level in a curve of clean lines as fans approach its doors, with indoor escalators ascending to the wide concourse level, giving amazing spots for watching the action on ice or court, and can host crowds ranging from an audience of 4,000 for more intimate events, to a full-scale event for 18,500 people at full capacity.
The 90,000 square feet of exhibition space allows the arena to dramatically change its settings to host a huge array of events, ranging from award shows, pivotal sports games and high venue concerts. The venue has hosted heavy rock legends Black Sabbath and dynamic pop boyband The Backstreet Boys also creating a place for Cirque De Soleil to amaze audiences. That is a tall order for any venue, so how does the FirstOntario Centre manage this?
The arena can change quickly and easily, giving space and equipment that allows it to create a venue that caters to a mass of different events. A street level ramp provides direct access to the arena and exhibition hall level, allowing crews to build and dismantle different settings, from ice rinks to performance stages, to basketball courts or dirt tracks, and has 4 loading bays, media facilities, including a TV studio, and locker/dressing rooms. The building can house different equipment with ease and transformation is only limited by your imagination.
